How to start your FAA Certification Process:
Anyone who requires an FAA Medical Certificate or Student Pilot Medical Certificate MUST electronically complete the FAA Form 8500-8. Information entered into MedXPress will be transmitted to the FAA and will be available for your AME to review at the time of your medical examination.
NOTE: The FAA MedXPress system is not available for submission of FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist exams at this time. Dr. Cosgrove will fill out your form at the time of your appointment.
Morton L. Gubin, M.D. is retiring...
Dr. Mort Gubin, now 95 years old, is retiring this year as an FAA Medical Examiner. Dr Gubin came to Palm Springs in 1971 and began practicing OB/Gyn, delivering babies at Desert Hospital (as it was called then). He had served in the US Navy in World War II.
Dr Gubin had a small office just for pilot medical exams, located on the east side of Palm Springs airport, but it is closing this year as Dr Gubin retires. The FAA has asked that FAA examiners not practice on-site at airports anymore.
Pilots can still get FAA Medical here in the Coachella Valley: “I want to carry on the tradition of Dr Gubin” said Dr Daniel Cosgrove, who has an office in Indian Wells. “Pilots will not wait, and they can be in and out in less than 15 minutes with the certification in their hand.”

Dr. Cosgrove’s Indian Wells office draws pilots from all three Coachella Valley airports, located in Thermal, Bermuda Dunes as well as Palm Springs. Many pilots are visiting the Palm Springs desert from out of state, but since the FAA Medical certification is a federal one, there are no restrictions by state.
Dr. Cosgrove was board certified in Emergency Medicine and practiced at the Desert Regional Medical’s Trauma Center for over ten years, but he is also board certified in Internal Medicine, and has practiced Internal Medicine in his medical office in Indian Wells for many years. Dr. Cosgrove is an expert in Aviation Medicine, and received training at the FAA national headquarters facility in Oklahoma City.
